Trekking Ischia: Panza – Sant’Angelo
Trekking excursion to discover the spectacular views of the southwest side of the island
Today's trek takes us along the southeastern part of the island, the oldest part geologically. Turning around the "Vatoliere" crater, one arrives at the "Madonna della Vergine" church and then continues to the "Scarrupata," an escarpment with different volcanic layers (tuff/lapillus etc.).
After a steep climb we stroll through the vineyards with a breathtaking view toward the tip of "San Pancrazio" with the small church. We pass through a chestnut grove and arrive at the top of "Mount Vezzi" (392 m).
Piano Liguori is a now uninhabited village, and there the descent begins. Along the way we see several cellars in the tuff. From the terraces you can see Capri Procida, Vivara and the Sorrento peninsula. The trail becomes easier and descends toward Campagnano. From here you can admire the bay of Cartaromana, where the remains of the city of Aenaria are located.
